It was labor day weekend and I had spent the afternoon cruising around on my bike to various clothing boutiques downtown looking for something acceptable to wear to LAUNCH.
As I passed by City Bike Works on K Street a glimmering white and chrome beauty caught my eye. They were having a big sale so I stopped for a closer look.
She was white, with brown accents, hammered metal fenders, and three speeds; which is really all you need in Sacramento. The sales woman asked if I wanted to give her a test ride and I surely did – and within that ride around the block I fell in love.
The model was a new urban design from Schwinn, called Cream. The men’s version is called Coffee. The style is a throw back to the vintage Schwinns I love so much and they are only available in bike shops (not big box stores). The price point was perfect for me, under $500.
So after a lot of research and about 24 hours of deliberation we decided to get it for my birthday present.
Since I’ve been on a big Joss Whedon this summer (watching Dollhouse, Buffy and Agents of Shield) and she has a big S on her seat I named her Serenity. It’s also how I feel when I’m on a bike.
For my birthday I rode her to the park and we watched Wreck It Ralph with friends.
